Osteopathy & Pregnancy:
pre & post natal
Each experience of pregnancy is different and so we ensure your treatment is tailored to you and your baby.
Pre-Natal Care
During pregnancy, a woman’s body will undergo many changes. These may be postural, physiological, hormonal, emotional or functional.
At Brunswick Osteopathy Clinic our approach is to support the body through these changes by addressing any aches, pains or restrictions that you have.
We focus on maintaining balance through the body, especially the pelvis, and also maintaining freedom of joints, ligaments and muscles. We want you to be able to stay as mobile as possible, and also help to get your body ready for labour and what is to come afterwards!
Common complaints during pregnancy are:
Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)
Back & Hip pain
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Rib and upper back pain
Pain and swelling in the legs and feet
Neck and Postural pain
All of our practitioners have experience in treating pregnant women and are very flexible with treatment options and positions. We also have special pregnancy pillows which can allow you to lie down on your front with no pressure on the stomach, which allow for a comfortable treatment.
Post-Natal Care
The time immediately after you give birth is often referred to as the ‘fourth trimester’. This is because you will still have many changes happening in your body –your body is still undergoing hormonal changes and there is a huge biomechanical change as your centre of gravity shifts, with the accompanying new (and ultimately relentless) tasks of feeding, changing, holding and bouncing.
This is a time to try to ensure you are looking after yourself and any aches and pains you might have. As they say, you can’t pour from an empty cup!
